  • Multi-Room Viewing on DIRECTV

Have you ever been watching something in one room only to find out that you need to move into another part of your house? Wouldn't it be nice if you could finish what you were watching in that other location rather than waiting until you are finished with your interruption? This is what Multi-Room Viewing (or MRV) is all about.

AT&T has been touting MRV as one of it's strong selling points over the past few months. "Record on 1 DVR. Play on any TV in your home." is how it is commonly phrased. Soon, you will be able to do this with DIRECTV as well.

DIRECTV is currently testing MRV between a standalone High-Definition receiver and it's flagship system the High-Definition Digital Video Recorder. DIRECTV CEO Chase Carey said at a recent earnings call, "... so if you got an HD box in one room and HD DVR in the other room, the HD box can access the HD DVR." This is the strongest indication yet that MRV is part of DIRECTV's roadmap.

While no one knows the exact data of the Multi-Room Viewing roll out, we should see this feature sometime in 2009.

From my understanding, it will be a bit longer .. But I do know that a lot of people are looking forward to it.

Can you clarify " a bit longer" in terms of weeks to months.
